Abstract

Electrophoresis is an essential analytical technique in genetic biochemistry for the separation and characterization of nucleic acids. This review evaluates the principles of electrophoresis and the effectiveness of various electrophoresis methods, including agarose gel electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis in DNA and RNA analysis. Agarose gel electrophoresis shows good capabilities in separating large to small DNA fragments, while capillary electrophoresis offers advantages in terms of speed and resolution for analysis of smaller fragments. This review also discusses the applications and developments of electrophoresis in nucleic acid analysis such as next-generation DNA sequencing (ImageJ plug -in) and low-cost intelligent detection systems detecting nucleic acids. Future electrophoresis techniques will provide more accurate results in as many domains as their applications require.
