Empowering Housewives through Kitchen Waste Conversion into Eco-Enzyme and Liquid Organic Fertilizer in Maros Regency

Abstract

Household waste management and dependence on chemical fertilizers are major challenges in achieving food security at the village level. Tukamasea Village in Maros Regency possesses abundant organic waste potential that has not been optimally managed by the community, particularly by housewives (IRT). This community service activity aims to empower housewives by enhancing their knowledge and practical skills in converting kitchen waste into eco-enzyme and Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF). The implementation method followed a participatory approach, consisting of socialization, technical demonstrations using the 1:3:10 fermentation formula, hands-on workshops, and evaluation. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the participants' technical skills in producing organic products independently. Furthermore, there was a transformation in awareness, shifting from waste-discarding behavior to waste-processing behavior that creates value-added products. Socially, this activity successfully fostered local leadership in village environmental management. In conclusion, empowering housewives through kitchen waste processing is a strategic step in supporting the circular economy and sustainable family food security in Tukamasea Village.
